Justin Rigali is an American Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was born on April 19, 1935, in Los Angeles, California. He was ordained a priest in 1961 and served in various roles in the archdiocese of Los Angeles before being appointed Bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1986. In 1994, he was appointed Archbishop of St. Louis, Missouri, and in 2003, he became Archbishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 2007, Rigali was elevated to the rank of Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. As Cardinal, he served as a member of various Vatican departments, including the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

During his time as Archbishop of Philadelphia, Rigali faced controversy over the diocese's handling of sexual abuse allegations against priests. In 2011, a grand jury report accused the diocese of covering up abuse and criticized Rigali's leadership for failing to remove accused priests from ministry.

Rigali retired in 2011 and currently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.
